Softball: Becker's bash lifts Lakes to victory

Rachel Becker led off the bottom of the seventh by pulling a pitch over the fence in right field, giving Lakes' softball team a 6-5 win over Mundelein on Thursday and the Eagles' second victory by a walk-off homer this season.

Mundelein had tied the North Suburban Conference crossover by scoring 4 runs, including a two-run home run by Breanna Adams (3-for-3), in the top of the seventh.

Becker also doubled, Jen Reed had 2 hits as well for Lakes (13-4), and Kelsey Ulrich - who hit the Eagles' other walk-off homer - added a double. Ally Perdue earned the complete-game win, allowing 2 earned runs, striking out three and walking one.

Jordyn West tripled for Mundelein, and Peyton Pribyl was 2-for-4.

Warren 4, Wauconda 3 (10 inn.): The Blue Devils scored a run in the top of the 10th to pull out the North Suburban crossover, which was a rematch of last year's NSC championship game.

Warren's Julienne Egofske and Nicole Somppi homered off Kayla Wedl, who struck out 16 batters and allowed 3 earned runs.

Somppi and Egofske each had 2 hits.

Mallory Carver homered and went 3-for-5 for Wauconda (8-5). Wedl (triple) and Taylor McCarthy each had a pair of hits for the Bulldogs.

Libertyville 7, Antioch 3: Jessie Lauret earned the win in her first pitching start of the season and aided her own cause by going 2-for-5 with 2 RBI, as the Wildcats won the North Suburban crossover.

Lauret (1-0) went the distance, allowing 4 hits and 5 walks with 7 strikeouts.

"Jessie did a fantastic job of stepping into the circle today and attacking every hitter," coach Elissa Wisniewski said.

Maggie Evers (double), Franny Quenan and Kenzie Rother also had 2 hits apiece for Libertyville (12-1). Jamie Stevens was 1-for-2 with a double, and Emily Hilldale went 1-for-3 with a triple.

Antioch (14-6) got a home run from Carlie Gaylord and 2 hits apiece from Ashley Stephens and Megan Lawrence.

Vernon Hills 11, Lake Zurich 8: Delaney Bowen was 4-for-4 with 2 RBI, as the Cougars won the North Suburban crossover.

Vernon Hills received 2 hits apiece from Dana Meline (3 runs), Nicole Pieper (double, 2 RBI), Sami Saliba (2 doubles, 2 RBI) and Sara Lenzi (double, 4 RBI).

Lake Zurich (3-9) got a home run from Amanda Guercio, who finished 2-for-4. Jessica Puccinelli was 3-for-3 with a double for the Bears, Melissa Goldberg went 3-for-4, and Sarah Schnecker was 2-for-4 with a double.

Grant 13, Johnsburg 6: On Wednesday, Hannah McCall went 4-for-5 with a double and 3 RBI, Sydney Goessele homered and knocked in two, and the Bulldogs won in nonconference action.

Calista Warmowski was 3-for-3 with 2 doubles, and Kenzie Sancken went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI. Grant (7-8) also got 2 hits apiece from Becca Wold (double, 2 RBI) and Marissa Abernathy. Taylor Adkins contributed a double and 2 RBI.
