COD to Host Writers Read and Emerging Voices Winners Showcase April 26

The College of DuPage will host a showcase for the winners of the "Emerging Voices" writing contest at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, in the Student Resource Center, Room 2000, on the College's main campus, 425 Fawell Blvd., in Glen Ellyn.

This event is free and open to the public.

Sponsored by the College's Academic Affairs office, Creative Writing Committee and Liberal Arts Division, the showcase will feature guest authors Tony Bowers and T. Sean Steele who will read and discuss their work.

COD English Instructor Tony Bowers is the author of "On the Nine," a collection of short stories set published by Vital Narrative Press. His work has appeared in a variety of literary outlets, including Timbooktu, The Story Workshop Reader, Hypertext Magazine and Expressions from Englewood. He was also the recipient of the 2006 Follett Fellowship for Creative Writing Excellence and the Grand Prize Winner in the CCC Radio Script Contest for his entry titled "The Bat Incident."

T. Sean Steele is a Chicago writer and former COD student. He has been published in Alaska Quarterly Review and The Broadkill Review. His novella "Tacky Goblin" won the inaugural Wild Onion Novella Contest and will be published by Chicago's independent press Curbside Splendor.

Part of the College's "Writers Read" series, the "Emerging Voices" contest was open to COD students, faculty, staff and the community and accepted entries in the form of short stories, novels, excerpts, creative nonfiction or poetry. Contest winners will receive cash prizes and first place entries will be published in the print version of the Prairie Light Review, the College's award-winning juried literary magazine. Additional winning entries will be published online.

For the last 17 years the Writers Read series has brought dozens of nationally acclaimed writers to College of DuPage.
