Altrusa International of Elgin, Illinois Inc. is pleased to announce that Betsy Couture of Elgin will be honored at the 67th annual Woman of the Year Recognition Dinner at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at Villa Olivia Country Club in Bartlett.

Dinner tickets are available at $35 each. Deadline for reservations is Saturday, May 14. For information and reservations, call Priscilla Nagreen at (847) 791-4764.

The local Altrusa Woman of the Year Award began in 1950 when Harriet Armstrong was recognized as the first recipient. Since then, a long line of dedicated local women have been honored for their volunteer service to the greater Elgin area community.

"Betsy Couture has contributed in many ways to make Elgin a caring and civically vibrant community," said Dr. Clare Ollayos, Altrusa Elgin Woman of the Year chair.

"She has been actively involved in a variety of Elgin organizations, including the Elgin Community Network, Northeast Neighbors Association and the Elgin Historic Preservation Commission, to name a few."

"Betsy is a familiar smiling face at Paul's Family Restaurant in Elgin where she is a well-known and beloved server on the early morning shift."

"She truly exemplifies the Altrusa keys," added Ollayos, "of 'Amity, Loyalty, Reciprocity, Unity, Service and Achievement'."

In addition, she has been an active member of Admirers of Beautiful Old Dwelling in Elgin (A.B.O.D.E.), a docent with the Gifford Park Association's Historic House Tour, and a volunteer with the Downtown Neighborhood Association, Elgin Fourth of July Parade, Elgin Fox Trot and the Community Thanksgiving Dinner. She is a recipient of a Women of Grace and Dignity recognition honoring "Women in the Workplace."

Couture has two sons, Brandon and David, daughter-in-law Kelly, and one grandson Carter.
