Grammy-winner Loudon Wainwright III performs at ECC Arts Center April 30

Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Loudon Wainwright III will perform in concert at the ECC Arts Center on Saturday, April 30. The performance will be held in the ECC Arts Center's Blizzard Theatre, Building H, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The performance will begin at 7 p.m.

Loudon Wainwright's illustrious music career has delivered more than two dozen albums. He is a three-time Grammy nominee and received the Grammy for Best Traditional Folk Album in 2010. Wainwright's 2012 recording, "Older Than My Old Man Now," was named one of NPR's Top 10 Albums of the Year. Wainwright is also well known for the novelty song "Dead Skunk (in the Middle of the Road)", and for playing Captain Calvin Spalding, the "singing surgeon" on the TV show M*A*S*H. As an actor, Wainwright has appeared in films directed by Martin Scorsese, Christopher Guest, Tim Burton, and Judd Apatow. A fan of Wainwright's music himself, Apatow has said "In my head, Loudon Wainwright is Bono."

Wainwright's expertly crafted songs are filled with witty humor and aching honesty, and have been recorded by artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Johnny Cash, Earl Scruggs, Mose Allison, and his son Rufus Wainwright. Wainwright collaborated with songwriter/producer Joe Henry on the music for Judd Apatow's movie "Knocked Up," and has also composed songs for NPR's Morning Edition and All Things Considered, ABC's Nightline, and for the soundtrack of HBO's "Boardwalk Empire." Mojo Magazine calls Wainwright "... one of America's most astute lyrical commentators ... lyrically compelling and emotionally overpowering."

Tickets to Loudon Wainwright III are $32. A three-course, pre-show dinner prepared by ECC's award-winning Culinary Arts and Hospitality program can be purchased for an additional $29. Dinners must be ordered on or before Monday, April 25. The menu for April 30 includes mixed green salad, orange lacquered salmon accompanied by wild rice pilaf and fresh vegetables, and berry tart for dessert.
