Baseball: St. Charles North has 'Faith' in win over Larkin

Sam Faith's grand slam home run was the big hit in St. Charles North's 9-8 Upstate Eight River baseball win over Larkin on Wednesday.

Faith's blast in the bottom of the sixth inning broke a 5-5 tie and highlighted a 6-run inning for the North Stars (12-2, 8-0), who then held off a Larkin rally that saw Christian Sidoti strike out the final two Royals with the tying run at third base.

Brendan Joyce (2 hits), John Lagare (2 RBI), Blake Saltsman (2 hits) and Zach Fick (2 hits) also contributed to the SCN offense and Tim Hasto picked up the win in relief.

Cy Kerber (2 RBI) and Kordell Thomas each doubled for Larkin (2-13, 0-11) and losing pitcher Zach Edgar added 2 hits.

Geneva 20, Elgin 3: Dylan Baer (2 hits, RBI), Jack Wassel (2 hits, 2B, 4 RBI) and Matthew Simpson (2 hits, 2B, 4 RBI) each homered for Geneva (12-4, 8-1) in its UEC River win. Justin Hasegawa (2B, RBI), AJ Hostman (2 RBI), Graham Owen (2 RBI), Jack Olson (2 RBI) and Vincent MacDonald (3 hits, 2 2Bs, 2 RBI) also contributed for the Vikings. Bryan Callaly was the winning pitcher, allowing 2 hits with 8 strikeouts and 2 walks in 4 innings. Rigoberto Sanchez (2 hits, 2B) and Pat Gallagher (2B) led Elgin (4-11, 4-3).

Bartlett 13, West Chicago 1: In the UEC Valley, Cameron Mays (2 hits, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI), Mike Prang (2B, RBI), Tripp Paris (2 hits, 3B, HR, 4 RBI) and Ryan Temesvary (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI) led the Bartlett (4-10, 1-3) offense. Shane Donovan allowed 4 hits with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk for the win.

South Elgin 11, East Aurora 1: Mitch Butvilas was 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI and Joe Roberson had 3 hits with a double and 3 RBI to lead the Storm (7-4, 4-0) to a UEC Valley win. Michael Cipriani (2 hits, 2B, RBI) and Jake Miller (2 hits, 2 RBI) also came through for South Elgin. Jon Duffy was the winning pitcher, allowing 4 hits with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks in 6 innings.

Glenbard East 13, West Aurora 10: Jake Aresenault had 3 hits with a home run and 3 RBI for West Aurora (3-7-1, 2-3) in its UEC Valley loss. Ryan Becker and JJ Rivera (2 hits, RBI) each added doubles for the Blackhawks.

Jacobs 9, Woodstock 0: In the Fox Valley Conference, Mike Addante (2 hits, 3B), Stevie Krueger (2B, RBI), Tim Randl (2 hits, 2 RBI) and Bryce Pahl (2B, 2 RBI) led the Golden Eagles (12-2, 5-0). Justin Lavrisa gave up 4 hits with 2 strikeouts and 1 walk in 5 innings for the win.

Dundee-Crown 11, Woodstock North 9: Danny Denz had 2 hits with a double and 3 RBI and picked up the save on the mound for the Chargers (10-5, 5-0) in this FVC win. Erik Hedmark (2 hits, 2 RBI), Patrick Harvey (3 hits, 2B), Andrew Zimmer (2B) and Sean Jay (2B, RBI) also contributed for D-C. Carson Balcer was the winning pitcher.

Marmion 4, Bishop McNamara 2: In the Chicago Catholic League, Matt Henkel had 2 hits with a double and Joe Young pitched a 4-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks to lead the Cadets (8-6, 4-3).

Metea Valley 6, Aurora Christian 3: Dustin Barrett (2 hits, 2B, RBI), RD Lutze (2 hits), Drew Henning (2 hits, 2B, RBI) and Drew Wagner (2B) led Aurora Christian (10-4-1) in this nonconference loss. Jacob Brothers took the loss on the mound.

Niles Notre Dame 12, Cary-Grove 11: Nick Kirk had a double and Tyler Pennington added 2 hits and an RBI for the Trojans (9-7) in this nonconference loss.
