Higher substitute pay in Naperville Dist. 203

Naperville Unit District 203 will pay its substitute teachers $5 more for a full day of work beginning next school year.

The school board unanimously approved new substitute pay rates of $100 a day and $50 a half day, an increase from the $95 and $47.50 being paid this year.

District officials say the increase will help ensure District 203 stays competitive with substitute pay offered in nearby districts, some of which already pay $100 or $105 a day.

The district's "fill rate" of substitute jobs has dropped from 99 percent to 96 percent as the job market has improved, but the hope is higher pay will help fill more substitute positions next year.
