Distribution partnership between Medline and Northside Hospital delivering cost savings for more than 2,500 physicians

MUNDELEIN, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Apr 19, 2016--According to a 2014 study, 53 percent of physicians described themselves as hospital or medical group employees. As a result, they can tap into more robust supply chain resources. Since 2013, Medline, a global medical supplies company, has provided physicians at Northside Hospital in Atlanta with customized supply chain solutions to help them achieve their clinical and financial goals. Because of the company's leading customer service and logistics capabilities, Northside Hospital has awarded Medline a five-year distribution agreement extension to continue its supply chain support.

Through the partnership, Medline provides 190 physician offices with a strong portfolio of commodity products -- including exam gloves,point-of-care tests and custom packs -- to help enhance patient-care solutions and cost savings. To ensure physicians can create efficiencies and track results, Medline sends monthly spending reports to help monitor contract compliance and price accuracy.

"Northside Hospital is experiencing exponential growth. It's important that we have a distribution partner standing next to us who can successfully service each physician office," said Kathy James, clinical supply chain manager at Northside Hospital. "Medline's personalized customer service and third-party logistic capabilities enable us to drive costs down and streamline the process. Our physicians can focus on what matters the most -- providing high-quality patient care."

With nearly 50 years of experience providing care to the Atlanta community, Northside Hospital is one of the fastest growing health care organizations in the Southeast. In 2015, the hospital ranked No. 4 on U.S. News & World Report 's list of the Best Hospitals in Georgia. More recently, Forbes named Northside Hospital the top employer in Georgia and the No. 18 top employer in the United States.

"The root cause of our success at Northside Hospital centers around our commitment of being the 'feet on the street' and working one-on-one with the physicians to provide customized solutions that deliver cost savings," said Joshua Clark, Southeast Region division manager for physician office sales at Medline. "As our partnership with Northside Hospital continues to grow, our goal is to remain transparent on pricing and product alternatives, as well as continue offering sound strategies for purchasing supplies."

The contract is effective through March 31, 2021.
