Lend a hand at Schaumburg Heritage Farm April 17

Go back in time with the Schaumburg Park District and experience a busy spring day on a working 19th century farm.

The annual Springtime on the Farm is set for noon to 4 p.m., Sunday, April 17, at Volkening Heritage Farm, 201 S. Plum Grove Road, in Schaumburg.

"Visitors will experience a busy spring day in 1880s Schaumburg at the event," said Patricia Kennedy-Green, program coordinator at Heritage Farm. "We encourage guests to stop by to see the live chicks and the piglets."

Participants will help with spring vegetable planting, sow oats in the fields, churn butter, restuff bedding with fresh straw and wash clothes in a washtub. Demonstrations include plowing with draft horses and blacksmithing. The event also includes craft activities, games and refreshments.

Admission is $4 per person and $16 per family. Children 3 years old and younger are free. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
