Baseball: Pietschmann helps Carmel rally past Libertyville
Eddie Pietschmann hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the top of the sixth inning, as Carmel Catholic's baseball team held off Libertyville 7-6 in a nonconference game on Thursday.
Carmel (5-1) led 5-0 until the Wildcats scored 4 runs in the fourth and one in the fifth. Austin Ehren (3 runs) and Cooper Johnson (RBI) each went 2-for-4 for the Corsairs.
Brian Murphy (2-for-3) homered for Libertyville in the sixth to get the Wildcats within one run. Lukas Plunkett had a two-run single for Libertyville, Daniel Marks doubled and Tim Calamari was 2-for-4.
Griffin Norton earned the win, pitching 3 innings in relief. He got out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh to help the Corsairs hold on.
Antioch 6, Vernon Hills 5: The Sequoits scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the North Suburban Prairie game.
Alex Unekis had a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
Connor Geidner was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, and Jake Emer doubled for Antioch (3-1 NSC Prairie).
For Vernon Hills (5-7, 2-1), Connor McNamara was 3-for-4 with a double and triple. Brenna Reback and Drew Winegardner were both 2-for-4, and Brendan Keogh was 1-for-2 with 2 RBI.
St. Viator 8, Grayslake Central 1: The Rams managed just 4 singles in their nonconference loss.
Grayslake Central freshman Coby Moe pitched 5 innings, allowing just 2 hits, including a home run to Dan Sullivan. Moe struck out three and walked one.
Sam Nozicka was 1-for-2 with 2 walks for the Rams.
