Portion of Naperville's Nichols Library to close 3 days
The lower level of Nichols Library in Naperville will be closed Wednesday through Friday so crews can begin a six-month process of renovating the building.
The library is in store for $2.3 million of upgrades this year to add new furniture, flooring, carpeting, electrical outlets and meeting room space, officials said.
The renovations begin with the facility at 200 W. Jefferson Ave. closing at 5 p.m. Tuesday instead of the usual 9 p.m.
The upper level will reopen at 9 a.m. Wednesday and keep typical hours. But the lower level, which includes the children's area, the computer lab and a program room, will be closed until 9 a.m. Saturday.
Renovations are designed to give the library an updated look, provide more seating near the south windows so people can enjoy views of the Riverwalk, give the children's area a nature theme with decorative trees and picnic-style tables and offer more outlets for visitors to plug in computers or charge phones.
"The lobbies will be bright and inviting with lighter tile and new ceilings," Olya Tymciurak, Nichols Library manager, said in a news release. "Both floors will appear more spacious."
Work also will relocate the computer lab to the first floor, improve the main staircase, add new sliding entrance doors and replace the skylight, the outdoor sign and lobby flooring.
Renovations are scheduled to last through September. Executive Director Julie Rothenfluh said the library will try to minimize disruptions to its public hours, but there may be other periods when sections or the entire library need to close.
