May 3 seminar explores how to leverage LinkedIn for personal, business networking

Looking for ways to make better use of LinkedIn to extend your personal network and promote your small business?

Learn practical tips in a LinkedIn workshop, to be held from 6-8 p.m. on May 3 at the College of Lake County. The seminar, which is open to the public, will take place in Room C005 (C Wing Auditorium) on the Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Titled "Connect to Prosper: Using LinkedIn to Accelerate Relationship Development and Drive Business Growth," the seminar will explain how to build a uniquely identifiable brand and engage others. Other topics include mining new business opportunities from your existing professional network and building a large company following. The seminar also will explain how to attract and retain top talent as well as translate online activities to real-world business growth.

The presenter is J.D. Gershbein, a speaker, consultant and adjunct professor of marketing communications at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He has been featured on Fox 32 TV news in Chicago and on CBS TV news in Washington, D.C.

Gershbein also has been quoted in the Chicago Tribune, Bloomberg BusinessWeek and Crain's Chicago Business, and he is a regular guest on WGN radio. In addition, Gershbein is a contributing blogger to The Huffington Post, Forbes, NBC and "SUCCESS Online.

"Many individuals and business professionals have created a LinkedIn profile but are not sure how to make full use of it," said Julie Shroka, director of CLC Alumni Relations and Special Events, which is sponsoring the event. "The seminar will help not only CLC alumni, but anyone build his or her network, and it will help businesses in their search for new clients and employees."
