Lake in the Hills annual races this Sunday

Lake in the Hills will host its 18th annual Run Thru the Hills 5K/10K race Sunday, April 10.

New this year is an endurance 5K Ruck Run/Walk for which participants will provide their own rucksack and weight.

All ruck sacks must weigh 30 pounds and will be weighed before the start/finish. Any backpack will do with any type of weight inside. U.S. Army Recruiting Center participants will provide guidance as they ruck alongside for support and encouragement during the race.

The course involves the rolling terrain and streets that surround Woods Creek Lake.

Participants who preregister can pick up race packets from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Lake in the Hills Village Hall, 600 Harvest Gate.

On-site registration begins at 6:30 a.m. and the race begins at 8 a.m. at AMC Theaters, 311 Randall Road. The cost is $40 per person.

Teams can compete only in the 5K walk or 5K run and comprise two to eight members. Each team member will be timed individually and run the entire distance of the race.

There are walk, run and strolling distances for all. Awards will be given for first- through third-place by age group for the 5K/10K run, for first- through third-place winners in the overall ruck division and walkers will receive a finisher's ribbon.

A complimentary post-race breakfast, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Lake in the Hills parks and recreation department, is included for all race participants. Additional breakfast tickets are available for $8 per person, but must be purchased in advance.
