Notre Dame CB Watkins has surgery for broken left arm

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Notre Dame cornerback Nick Watkins will miss the final two weeks of spring practice after undergoing surgery for a broken left arm.

The university said Sunday the 6-foot-1, 200-pound defensive back from DeSoto, Texas, underwent successful surgery Saturday night after being injured during practice earlier in the day. He is competing for a starting job.

Watkins played in 12 games last season, making his first start against Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl, with three tackles and a pass breakup. He played in 12 games last season, finishing with eight tackles. As a freshman in 2014, Watkins played primarily on special teams.
