Anderson Animal Shelter: Dog of the week

As Anderson Animal Shelter's "Dog of the Week," Sapphire's adoption fee will be waived to an approved adopter, and accompanied by free in-home training consultation with his positive reinforcement trainer.

This smooth-haired terrier/dachshund mix is almost 2 years old, with a zest for life and gratitude for second chances.

Sapphire was brought to Anderson by a South Elgin police officer, who found her as a stray, alone and afraid. Shelter staff quickly realized that she wasn't able to use her hind legs. They don't know the cause of the paralysis in her back legs, but they can tell you that it doesn't hold her back! A kind volunteer donated a doggy wheelchair for her to regain her mobility and sense of confidence. Her set of wheels helps her get around, as she uses her front feet to move with ease, explore new places, and greet everyone. When she's not busy trotting around in her wheelchair, she loves to stop long enough to give kisses and eat treats! As you can see, Sapphire doesn't know she has a disability, and they are not about to tell her!

For all your care and affection, Sapphire promises unconditional love in return. Consider giving this special lady a home. For details, call the shelter at (847) 697-2880. Even if she isn't the right dog for you, please share the news about Sapphire with the hopes of finding this deserving gal the home she deserves.
