Women's Residential Services celebrates 30th anniversary

The Women's Residential Services program of the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center will celebrate its 30th anniversary from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, April 16.

WRS was established in 1986 through funding from the Illinois Department of Human Services' Department of Alcohol and Substance Abuse and has provided services to 2,395 women and 1,204 children since its inception.

The celebration will be at 24647 N. Milwaukee Ave., in Vernon Hills. The event includes a facility tour, presentation by organization leaders, stories by WRS alumni and light snacks. The presentation will begin at 2:30 p.m.

WRS is a Dual Diagnosis Capable residential treatment program for chemically dependent women and their children. Priority is given to pregnant and parenting women and intravenous drug using women.

Individualized treatment focuses on developing a chemical-free lifestyle through building recovery and resiliency skills, and improving parenting skills. Originally located on the top floor of Winchester House on Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville, it moved to its present location in 1997.
