Mundelein High hosts benefit match

The Mundelein High School boys volleyball program will host a Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation match vs. Vernon Hills High School on Wednesday, April 6 at 5 p.m. in the school's main gym, 1350 W. Hawley St., Mundelein. This will be a benefit game in memory of Ian Turkula, a 2013 MHS graduate and volleyball player who lost his fight to brain cancer in January 2014. Donations to enter are $3 for children and $5 for adults. "The donations will represent a remembrance of Ian's life and Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation who supported him and his family during his battle with cancer," head volleyball Coach George Dressen said. The event will include a 50/50 raffle and the sale of Bear Necessities Bears for a minimum $20 donation. These bears are normally given to the children who are fighting cancer. Donations also may be made any time up to the event date at the MHS bookstore. Donations are tax deductible and checks should be made out to the Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation. A memorial for Ian is on display at the volleyball awards display case outside the main gym.
