Bears re-sign LB Acho to 1-year deal

Unrestricted free agent Sam Acho has agreed to re-sign a one-year contract with the Bears, according to his agency, Sports Trust Advisors.

The 6-foot-3, 257-pound Acho is expected to provide excellent special teams play and depth at outside linebacker, as he did last season.

The five-year veteran started seven games in 2015 and played 446 snaps (43.3 percent of the defensive total). The 27-year-old Acho was fifth on the Bears with 60 tackles, while sharing time with Pernell McPhee (593 snaps), Willie Young (524 snaps) and Lamarr Houston (416 snaps). Acho was also fourth on the Bears with 8 special teams tackles.

Acho's biggest contributions to the Bears last year came in the run game. Although he had 11 sacks in his first two seasons, he's added just 2 more in the past three years.

He played his first four season with the Arizona Cardinals, who drafted him in the fourth round in 2011 out of Texas. Acho signed with the Bears for the first time as an unrestricted free agent almost exactly a year ago (April 1, 2105). His original one-year deal with the Bears was for $745,000. Terms of his current contract have not been released.
