Jail time for man involved in Des Plaines beating

A Niles man has pleaded guilty to aggravated battery in the 2012 beating a man in Des Plaines.

Najeeb Ahmad, 28, was sentenced to 364 days in jail and ordered to pay $314 in fines, in exchange for his plea. He received credit for 278 days in custody, court records show.

Ahmad was implicated in the March 2012 beating, which police say occurred after Ahmad and another man approached the victim in his car, inquired about his gang affiliation and asked if he wanted to buy drugs. After the man exited his car, Ahmad beat him, police said. No arrests were made, police said.

The victim spotted Ahmad a year later and informed authorities. A Cook County judge dismissed charges against the other defendant in 2014, court records show.
