Lovie deal makes no sense for state
Let me see if I understand Illinois' stupidity.
1. They pay over $1.9 million to the fired football staff per year for two years.
2. They pay Lovie Smith $2 million per year for six years. (Tampa Bay - NFL - pays Lovie the difference between any salary under $6 million, which in this case is $4 million). If U of I paid Lovie $100,000 per year, then Tampa Bay would have to pay $5.9 million!
3. The assistants will require another $2 million - at least -- per year.
4. Other costs - unknown.
5. Tuition increases ... state revenue and budget problems.
As a resident of the nearly bankrupt state of Illinois and neighbor to the nearly bankrupt city of Chicago, I believe we should do the following:
1. Fire all U of I trustees
2. Fire the chancellor
3. Fire the athletic director
4. Discontinue football and basketball programs until dollars are available for funding.
Wake up Illinois!
