Mundelein 8th-graders get taste of college

Submitted by Mundelein Elementary School District 75

Carl Sandburg Middle School took career readiness very seriously by inviting college representatives to campus to outline what eighth-graders must accomplish in high school to prepare for college.

"Our hope was that each eighth-grader gains an understanding that going to college is an attainable goal, regardless of their circumstances," said Principal Mark Pilut.

The Mini-College Fair showed students that there are many different types of college campuses available to them. Colleges represented at the event included Northwestern University, Lake Forest College and College of Lake County.

Representatives played games of building towers with marshmallows to show that college can be fun, students spun a wheel of trivia, and heard from college students that getting accepted to college is possible for any student.
