Lumes Famous Pancake House coming to Algonquin

A new spot to get your pancakes, coffee and omelet fix is coming to the Randall Road corridor.

Lumes Famous Pancake House and Restaurant is scheduled to open at 2561 S. County Line Road in Algonquin this spring. The exact date is unknown, but the restaurant's opening is targeted for April.

The restaurant will move into the former Mimi's Café spot, right off Randall Road in front of the Algonquin Commons shopping center.

Mimi's opened in 2008, and closed in August of 2013 because of a lack of business, restaurant officials have said.

Lumes originated in 1992 in the south suburbs of Chicago, and has been expanding since - first in the south suburbs, and now to the west.

Some Randall Road travelers may already be familiar with Lumes. There is a Lumes Famous Pancake House and Restaurant just off the Randall Road corridor in Batavia at 1902 W. Fabyan Parkway.

In all, the business currently has five locations, with spots in Frankfort, Palos Heights, Orland Park, Chicago on Western Avenue and in Batavia.

Presently, the restaurant is hiring for all positions at its new Algonquin location and advertising on Craigslist.

The restaurant serves breakfast and lunch every day of the week, and is billed as a comfortable family-friendly spot to get pancakes, waffles, sandwiches, salads and more. It also serves waffles made 15 different ways, crepes and homemade soup.

For Peep lovers:

People either love them or hate them.

For those like me who love the sugary marshmallow creations known as Peeps, Menchie's Frozen Yogurt along the Randall Road corridor has a treat for you this month just in time for Easter.

Menchies has a location along Randall Road in Algonquin at 2531 N. County Line Road, and will be opening another one along Randall in the Geneva Commons Shopping Center later this year at 1064 Commons Drive.

For a limited time this month, the business in Algonquin is serving up a Peep-inspired frozen yogurt called Marshmallow Mania.

After you load the frozen yogurt into your self-serve cup, there comes even more goodness. The yogurt is then topped with a marshmallow Peep.

For information call Menchie's at (224) 333-0641.

Spring fever:

As you're out shopping for new spring clothes and accessories along the Randall Road corridor at Geneva Commons, you can earn your way to something even more associated with spring - baseball.

The mall is giving away free tickets to Kane County Cougars games to customers who spend $100 or more at Geneva Commons.

If you spend the $100, you will get two tickets to a home game valued at $26. If you spend $150 or more, you'll get four free tickets.

To get your tickets, you'll need to bring your receipts dated March 14 or later from mall stores or restaurants to Chicago Locker Room. The store is near Lids and Joseph A. Bank.

Supplies of the tickets are limited and there is one set of tickets awarded per customer.
