Oakton holding free international film fest

Oakton Community College's 29th Modern Language Film Fest features 12 films presented in their original languages with English subtitles, showcasing the 13 languages available to study at the college. Screenings are Monday, March 28, through Thursday, March 31, and are free and open to the public at the campuses in Des Plaines, 1600 E. Golf Road, and Skokie, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave.

This year's highlights include "Leviathan" (2014), a Russian film focusing on Kolya, a man from a coastal town forced to fight a corrupt mayor when his house faces demolition. Kolya recruits a lawyer, but gets more than he bargained for in the process.

Other films include: "There Is a Man in Our House" (Arabic, 1961); "Coming Home" (Chinese, 2014); "The Intouchables" (French, 2011); "Barbara" (German, 2012); "Shiva" (Hebrew, 2011); "The Namesake" (Hindi and Urdu, 2006); "A Five Star Life" (Italian, 2013); "Like Father Like Son" (Japanese, 2013); "The Admiral" (Korean, 2014); "Jack Strong" (Polish, 2014); and "Chico and Rita" (Spanish, 2010).
