Mussman: Petition calls on ICC to reject power lines

State Rep. Michelle Mussman of Schaumburg said Friday that her petition calling on the Illinois Commerce Commission to reject ComEd's proposed West Central Reliability Project has gotten more than 1,000 signatures so far. "The health and well-being of our community are being threatened by this project, and it's great to see the residents continue to fight back," Mussman said.

ComEd is proposing high voltage power lines along the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway and building 140- to 170-foot poles right next to residential properties. ComEd officials say have said the project is necessary to provide reliable service for their customers. They've also said burying the lines is prohibitively expensive and that state law requires the lowest-cost option to be pursued.
