Frasz wins Kane County District 18 Republican race

Kane County Board District 18 representative Drew Frasz of La Fox held off a challenge from Jim MacRunnels of Elburn, in the Republican primary.

With all precincts counted, Frasz had defeated MacRunnels by more than 700 votes.

Frasz has been on the board since 2008.

MacRunnels had called for cutting the property-tax levies of the county and the Kane County Forest Preserve District. MacRunnels also said the forest district should stop buying property, especially in District 18.

Frasz is vice chairman of the county board and chairman of its transportation committee. He has supported the county's tax-levy freeze the last four years.

MacRunnels once ran for county board chairman, but lost in the Republican primary to then-chairman Karen McConnaughay. MacRunnels once sued McConnaughay, contending she had raised county managers' pay illegally.

No one ran in the Democratic primary. The party's leadership has through May 31 to fill the vacancy on the general-election ballot.
