Sleepy Hollow voters approve 33 percent tax hike

Sleepy Hollow's previous two attempts to raise property taxes may have been shot down, but voters Tuesday decided the third time's the charm.
With all three precincts reporting, voters approved a 33 percent property tax hike 151 to 117 votes, according to unofficial results. That will allow the village to reap an additional $180,000 per year from its more than 3,300 residents. The owner of a house with an assessed value of $200,000 is expected to pay $132 more in property taxes. Officials said the money will go toward the general fund, as well as road improvements and a depleting five-year capital fund, which is used for long-term expenses and purchases.
