Swarthout wins, Drew leads in NSSD

Lake Forest resident Thomas Swarthout will likely continue as a North Shore Water Reclamation District board member.

Unofficial totals in Tuesday's election show Swarthout had 2,281, or about 76 percent, with a commanding lead over Frank "Pony" Swanton of Lake Bluff with 731 votes or 24 percent in the Republican primary in the sanitary district's 4th Ward. No Democrats were on the ballot.

In the Ward 2 Democratic primary, unofficial results show Steven Drew of Waukegan with 3,007 votes, or 52 percent, over David Koss with 2,753, or 48 percent. Republican Kenneth W. Arnold was unopposed in the primary.
