Dist. 41 approves 4-years contract with teachers

Lake Villa School District 41 board of education approved a four-year contract with its teachers at a meeting Monday evening, district officials said.

Lake Villa Federation of Teachers and board of education announced last month that the two sides had reached tentative agreement on a four-year deal. The agreement came after teachers indicated they would go on strike Feb. 29 if a new deal were not reached by that date.

The official agreement is being prepared and reviewed by both sides, but includes annual step-and-lane salary increases based on the length of employment with the district and academic credentials earned, with one additional step added to the salary schedule to further encourage retention, district officials said in a news release.

Among other things, the contract includes a salary increase of 3.25 percent the first year and 3.5 percent in each of the remaining three years of the contract. Those teachers who have gone through the entire salary schedule will receive a 2.28 percent increase the first year and 2.45 percent the remaining years.

An increase in starting salary was also established.

Lake Villa Federation of Teachers represents the district's 181 teachers.
