Fremd product Scott Tolzien signs with Indianapolis Colts

After three years as a backup in Green Bay, Fremd product Scott Tolzien is moving on.

The 28-year-old Rolling Meadows native, an unrestricted free agent, signed a two-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts, where he is expected to be the top backup to Pro Bowl quarterback Andrew Luck. Matt Hasselbeck, last year's No. 2 in Indy, retired and Josh Freeman was released.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Bears had also shown interest in Tolzien, although the two sides had not met.

In the past two years with the Packers, playing behind Aaron Rodgers, Tolzien threw just 1 pass, which he completed. But in 2013, Tolzien's first year with the Packers, he saw extensive playing time in three games after injuries to Rodgers and backup Seneca Wallace. He completed 55 of 90 passes for 717 yards, 1 touchdown and 5 interceptions.

Undrafted out of Wisconsin in 2011, the 6-foot-3, 205-pound Tolzien signed with the 49ers and spent two years in San Francisco but did not play in any games before joining the Packers.

After his first two years as the Packers' No. 3 quarterback, Tolzien was re-signed last year to a $1.35 million deal as the No. 2 behind Rodgers.
