Grayslake Central claims FVC indoor title

With an entire outdoor campaign ahead, Cary-Grove's Nikki Freeman seems to be in midseason form.

Freeman tossed the shot put 38 feet, 6 inches to take top honors at Tuesday's Fox Valley Conference girls track indoor invite held at Huntley High School.

Freeman's efforts lifted the Trojans to a fourth-place finish with 70 points.

"I feel I am getting better every indoor meet this season," said Freeman, who is considering competing in track at Illinois State or Southern Illinois.

"I like my consistency, There were some good throwers at this meet. It is good to finish first."

Placing first in 9 of the 15 events, Grayslake Central grabbed top team honors with 134 points.

Alexa Schmitt was outstanding pacing the Rams with 4 first place finishes. Schmitt grabbed top honors in the 60 hurdles (9.30), long jump (17-5); 400 (1:02.21) and high jump (5-5).

"It was a great race," said O'Malley. "My plan was to take the lead the last 100 meters. The girls from Huntley were very good. I save my kick for the end of the race."
