Buffalo Grove Park District commissioner wins state honor

The Illinois Association of Park Districts has named Buffalo Grove Park District Board Commissioner Larry Reiner the winner of the 2015 Mike Cassidy Commissioner Community Service Award.

The award is presented to a commissioner whose volunteer service to his or her community emulates the vision and voluntary efforts demonstrated by Cassidy, who served 35 years as a commissioner of the Freeport Park District.

The award was presented Jan. 29, during the All-Conference Luncheon at the annual IAPD/IPRA Soaring to New Heights Conference. Dr. Reiner was in attendance, but had no prior knowledge he was receiving the award.

"I cannot find the words to express how truly honored and grateful I am to receive this award," said Reiner, who's served more than 28 years on the park board. "When I look back on my years of service as a park district commissioner, and what we as a district have been able to accomplish for our community, it is extremely fulfilling. I certainly couldn't have done it alone. There are so many people who have been part of my journey; and, I want to thank each and every one of them for their part in me receiving this recognition."

Reiner is the second Buffalo Grove Park District commissioner to win the award, Former commissioner Martha Weiss received the honor in 2003.
