Elk Grove Township creates new partnerships to better Serve residents

EGTAC, which stands for Elk Grove Township Agency Collaborative met for the first time in January of 2016. The group is made up of a total of more than 40 government bodies, social service agencies and churches, with a common goal of joining forces to better serve the residents of Elk Grove Township.

Discussions at the first meeting centered around how partnerships could be formed between the organizations, when to refer individuals who need assistance and how to coordinate efforts to best serve community members in-need.

"We realized that there are so many different organizations within Elk Grove Township, and each has areas that they specialize in when it comes to assisting people," said Mike Sweeney, Elk Grove Township supervisor.

Sweeney added that the township is working to 'connect the dots' throughout the community, to ensure there are a wealth of resources available.

"If we are unable to assist someone that comes through our door, we would like to have alternatives for them and would like to be a reciprocal resource for our EGTAC partners," Sweeney said.

In conjunction with the creation of the partnership, Elk Grove Township officials also decided to 'freshen up' the township logo and its tagline. Six stars were added to represent Elk Grove Township and the five municipalities it serves, which include Arlington Heights, Rolling Meadows, Elk Grove Village, Mount Prospect and Des Plaines.

The tagline was changed to 'Empowering People Through Community' which Sweeney says will be reinforced through the formation of EGTAC and future initiatives.

Among the 65 individuals who attended the first EGTAC meeting were representatives from the villages of Arlington Heights and Elk Grove Village, the Rolling Meadows Police Department, and more than two dozen social service agencies and churches.

Elk Grove Township officials are planning future meetings to continue to build partnerships among all of the collaborative partners.
