A look at Illinois' Democratic candidates for US Senate

CHICAGO (AP) - A look at the Democrats seeking the party's nomination for U.S. Senate:

U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth, 47, Hoffman Estates

Army veteran who served as director of the Illinois Department of Veteran Affairs and assistant secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Lost a 2006 bid for Congress to Republican U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam. Defeated U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh in 2012. Currently serving her second House term. Graduated from the University of Hawaii and holds a master's degree from George Washington University.

Married with one daughter.

State Sen. Napoleon Harris, 37, Harvey

Former Northwestern University football player who was selected in the first round of the NFL draft and played seven seasons. Owns several Beggars Pizza restaurants in suburban Chicago. Elected to the Illinois Senate in 2012, representing several southern suburbs of Cook County. Briefly sought the U.S. House seat vacated by former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. in 2013 but dropped out of the race prior to the special election.

Married with three children.

Andrea Zopp, 59, Chicago

Former first assistant in the Cook County State's Attorney's office and federal prosecutor who also worked in corporate positions for Sara Lee, Sears and Exelon. Former President and CEO of the Urban League of Chicago. Appointed by Mayor Rahm Emanuel to serve on Chicago Public Schools Board of Education; resigned last year after announcing her first bid for public office. Graduated from Harvard University and Harvard Law School.

Married with three children.
