Comic Con returns to the Schaumburg Library

If your Spidey sense is tingling, it may be a sign that Comic Con is returning to the Schaumburg Township District Library.

All ages are invited to this celebration of all things pop culture from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, March 5, in the lobby and locations throughout the library. Participants are welcome to wear "family-friendly" costumes, though costumes are not required.

Why dress up? Because Comic Con is the perfect time to shed your inhibitions and don that Stormtrooper uniform that's been sitting in the closet, or braid your hair with ribbons to match your ice blue Elsa gown.

Perhaps you prefer to slip into your black cape and Batman mask, or a pair of bright red Wonder Woman boots. All those in costume are invited to march in the costume parade, which will take place at approximately 2 p.m. in the lobby.

Comic Con events are free and do not require registration, so drop in anytime during the event to meet authors and artists, take photos with the wandering superheroes, get your face painted and more.

In March 2015, hundreds of people poured through the doors for the library's first Comic Con. The popularity of this celebration inspired library staff to make it an annual event. Those attending are welcome to visit Artists' Alley in the Audiovisual Theatre, where the following comic book artists and authors will be available: Tom Bacon, Scott Beaderstadt, Mike Bridges, Ali Cantarella, Scott Casper, Serena Guerra, Fred Herring, Dan Hulina, Zach Lehner, Cory Smith and Steph Stanga.

Several of them will also be featured in a "Meet the Artists" panel hosted by Southgate Media Group from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Adult Classroom.

Other fun events will include Superhero Storytimes, a drawing demonstration by comic book artist Brian Babendererde, photo ops with costumed characters, and "Superheroes: The History, The Thrills" presented by Steven Frenzel.

In addition, face painters will be available for turning mere humans into everything from princesses to aliens, and participants will have the opportunity to meet and take photos with members of the 501st Midwest Garrison - the Illinois chapter of the 501st Legion, a Star Wars Imperial costuming club.

Attendees can also view a comics display by Jason Latko, and stop by tables hosted by Keith's Komix and Dreamland Comics.

If you're tired of the "same old, same old" and could use an escape into a fun-filled day of something different, stop by Comic Con. Come in costume - or not - and indulge your inner superhero! It's a perfect event to share with your children, siblings, or friends, and a great place to make new friends who share your interests. Until then, let it go, live long and prosper, and may the force be with you.
