Van smashes into Roselle pizza restaurant, injures four

A van left Irving Park Road in Roselle on Wednesday afternoon and drove into a pizza restaurant, injuring the driver and three others.

The Roselle Fire Department responded to the accident at Acuna Pizza, 342 Irving Park Road, around 3 p.m. and found a Ford cargo van had crashed into the restaurant, said shift commander Marcus Auble.

“He came off Irving Park Road, through the intersection, down into the parking lot, across the parking lot and into the building,” he said.

Four people, including the driver, were transported to either Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village or Adventist GlenOaks Hospital in Glendale Heights. Auble said the driver's injuries, and those of two other people hurt in the restaurant were minor, but one person had more severe injuries, officials said. No one else on Irving Park Road was injured.

Auble said they don't yet know why the van went into the restaurant.

Emergency personnel were at the shopping center for two-and-a-half hours after the crash.

No one answered at Acuna Pizza on Wednesday night, and Auble said the restaurant would be boarded up and closed for some time.
