Glendale Heights police chief calls it a career

Longtime Glendale Heights Police Chief Michael Marron hung up his badge this week, wrapping up a 29-year career.

Marron was appointed chief in 2005 after steadily climbing through the department's ranks. His 11 years as top cop secures his spot as the village's longest-serving chief.

"Chief Marron has been a true leader and inspiration for the Glendale Heights community and his services will be missed dearly," Village President Linda Jackson said in a written statement. "He was admired and respected by his peers, but most importantly, he was a great friend and colleague. Chief Marron was always prepared and committed to protecting and serving the residents of Glendale Heights."

Marron is credited with leading the redesign of the village's police station in 2012 and with leading the department's national accreditation efforts in 2011 and 2014.

Village officials say they are now in the final stages of the search for his replacement.
