Outlook: With two-time state qualifier Kanzler (35-2), Berg (35-4) and Lear (33-7) leading the way with first-place finishes, Grant rolled to the McHenry regional championship last weekend by a comfortable 50.5-point margin over runner-up Barrington. That regional crown allowed the Bulldogs to advance to their own team sectional dual meet against Wheeling on Feb. 23. Stevenson finished in a 168-168 tie with host Deerfield in a strange ending to its regional meet. The title wound up being awarded to the Warriors based on a fourth tiebreaker with five champions to only two champs for the Patriots. Stevenson will still be well represented at the sectional with eight individuals competing, including regional champs Geick (36-3) and Kordek (35-4). Zamin (33-8) has shined for Warren along with senior teammate Sosa (28-7). Both have North Suburban Conference and regional crowns under their belts. Obispo has come on strong for Mundelein late in the season, while Brunner is a top-ranked wrestler who is almost certain to win the championship in that loaded 195-pound weight class.

Outlook: After winning its own regional title by 26 points over runner-up Wauconda last weekend, Antioch will be competing in the team sectional for the fifth time in seven years when the Sequoits face host Fenton on Feb. 23. Antioch has displayed a lot of star-power in its lineup the past two seasons, as No. 2-ranked Schoenfelder (43-2), No. 4-ranked Bessette (29-5) and Dlugopolski (28-9) all brought home medals from the state meet in 2015. Schoenfelder and Bessette should reach state for the third straight year. The Sequoits also have an elite wrestler in regional champ Gross (40-9) ready to make his second trip to the state meet. Carmel Catholic also brings an abundance of experience and talent into the sectional meet. Morris' perfect season remains intact with a sparkling 37-0 record heading into the competition, while teammate Tortorice (34-3) is coming off a third-place finish at state as a junior. Barber (8-2) should earn his third trip to state for the Corsairs after missing much of the season due to injury. Cramer and Palm are freshmen coming off regional crowns, while Smith is hoping to make a return trip downstate. Augustine, Stankiewicz, Turzynski and Velentino also won regional crowns. With perennial power Montini moving up to Class 3A this year, there should be many more opportunities for area individuals to qualify for state out of this regional.
