Aurora armed robber gets 21 years

A Kane County judge sentenced an Aurora man to 21 years in prison for robbing a drug dealer at gunpoint, county officials said.

Tranon D. Meeks, 27, of the 400 block of Blackhawk Street, was convicted in October 2015 of armed robbery and possession of cannabis. A judge sentenced him Wednesday, the Kane County state's attorney's office said.

In that trial, prosecutors presented evidence that on Jan. 9, 2014, Meeks pointed a .22-caliber Marlin semi-automatic rifle at someone who came to his home to sell him marijuana.

Meeks took the victim's watch, wallet, cellphone, backpack containing miscellaneous items and marijuana. Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime enhanced his sentence.

Meeks receives credit for 762 days served in Kane County jail and is eligible for day-for-day sentencing.
