Another take on Kane Co. loan plan

Here's another take on the preliminary approval by Kane County officials for a loan to St. Charles Township as reported by Mr. Fuller.

County treasurer David Rickert stated the 1.5 percent interest is about twice the return the county would collect locally and the township could possibly save 2 to 3.5 percent on the $400,000 loan.

He goes on to say that he doesn't care if the banking industry frowned on such actions because the interest the county would receive just covers lending costs.

Then why? Might I suggest that final approval would set precedence for future loans down the road thus creating a wild card that politicians can add to their hand. How many loans will be issued? If there isn't sufficient funds to go around, who decides who gets what? Would it be the board? That being the case, as present day political trends would suggest, the party in power would hold the "ace in the hole."

In my opinion, it is these political games that have led to public governing ineptitude at almost every level. Politicians are the only ones allowed in the game but let's not forget who picks the players.

I am going to keep a close eye on the vote between members. Unanimous approval would suggest everything is status quo being that the cards are redealt every four years or so. A split along party lines might also suggest everything is status quo.

Enough is enough. People are fed up. A unanimous no vote might restore some voter confidence in a seemingly dysfunctional system. Personally, the tally of votes will tell me who's in the game and who's out.
