Principle to complete water, sanitary overhaul at Fort Sheridan

ROSEMONT - Principle Construction Corp. has been selected for an infrastructure project for Olympia Acquisitions and Location Finders International, working on behalf of the Department of the Army/88th RSC at Fort Sheridan in Highwood.

The company will disconnect old pipes and lay new pipes to accommodate the growing reserve base.

"Fort Sheridan Reserve Post began serving as a military garrison in 1877 and is currently experiencing major failures in its decades-old infrastructure, including costly leakage of water and water main breaks. We worked tirelessly on behalf of Olympia Acquisitions and LFI to help them navigate through this very complex arrangement with the army," said Principle Owner Mark Augustyn.

The sanitary sewer is compromised by the inflow of stormwater and groundwater and has experienced pipe failures. While many campus buildings are being replaced or upgraded, Principle will disconnect and construct new infrastructure systems so that the fort can avoid costly repairs and service disruptions as they grow in the future.

The scope of work for the project includes disconnecting and abandoning 4,800 feet of existing water main and replacing with more than 5,000 feet of 12-inch, 8-inch and 6-inch pipe, including 14 new connections. Principle will also provide new valves, valve vaults and fire hydrants for the water main system.

To improve the sanitary system, Principle will remove 2,843 feet of existing sanitary sewers and 18 connections and replace it with 2,141 feet of new 8-inch PVC pipe. They will televise and inspect the remaining 518 feet of sewer pipe to see if any of it remains usable.
