Literary open mic welcomes local author

Lit by the Bridge, a literary open mic reading in Aurora, welcomes Lynne Handy as the featured reader Thursday, Feb. 18, at Culture Stock, 43 E. Galena Blvd.

The North Aurora resident is an author and poet. A retired library director, she has an interest in the written word. She has just published her debut chapbook, "Spy Car and Other Poems," which is available on Amazon.

Her novel, "In the Time of Peacocks," was published in 2013. She has published memoir pieces, short stories, and flash fiction in Memoir Journal, Lark's Fiction Journal, and FewerThan500.

"Green Lady," a ghost story, was included in a 2015 anthology, Familiar Spirits. Her poetry has been published in several literary journals. "Girl Finding Voice" was nominated for a Pushcart Award. Her unpublished novella, "The Untold Story of Edwina," is in the editing stage.

Lit by the Bridge is a monthly open mic reading at Culture Stock curated by Paul LaTour.

The open mic portion begins at 7 p.m., with signup at 6:45 p.m. Open mic is limited to the first 10 readers. Open mic readers are allotted five minutes to perform their works.

Poets, fiction writers, memoirists, and other writers are welcome to attend or read at the event. Culture Stock is a used bookstore and arts center in downtown Aurora.
