Alabama hires Derrick Ansley as defensive backs coach

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Alabama has hired Derrick Ansley to coach defensive backs.

Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban announced the hiring on Wednesday, replacing Mel Tucker. Tucker left to become Kirby Smart's defensive coordinator at Georgia.

Ansley spent the past three seasons at Kentucky, where he coached cornerbacks for two years and the secondary in 2015. He had been promoted to the Wildcats defensive coordinator before opting to leave for Alabama.

Ansley was an Alabama defensive graduate assistant during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. The Wildcats defense scored a school-record six touchdowns and ranked second in the Southeastern Conference with 23 forced turnovers last season.

Ansley also is a former assistant at Tennessee.
