Feb. 25: CLC presents benefit performances of 'The Vagina Monologues'

"The Vagina Monologues," which has been published in 48 languages and performed in over 140 countries, will be presented by the College of Lake County at 2 and 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25 in the C Wing Auditorium, Grayslake Campus.

The play's author, Eve Ensler, is a Tony Award-winning playwright, activist and author. She was named one of Newsweek's "150 Women Who Changed the World" and The Guardian's "100 Most Influential Women."

The show features eight CLC students: Acquennetta Abrams, Cat Brewer, Brandi Coleman, Sam Cotnugno, Nyx Jefferson, Olivia Love-Hatlestad, Willow Wallis and Jenn Wadas. The production's directors are CLC faculty members Mick Cullen, Lynn Harper and Kathryne Starzec. Alyssa Tucibat is the stage manager and Ricardo Castro is light and sound technician.

"'The Vagina Monologues' is a legendary piece of modern feminist theatre brought to life by a cast ranging from first-time performers to seasoned vets," said Cullen, who teaches social work courses. "The cast has really grown together over the course of rehearsals and I'm excited to share their talents and these great stories with the wider community."

According to Jenny Lee, English faculty member and director of the Women's Center, CLC's production is being done to support V-Day, a global movement to stop violence against women and girls.

A question and answer session and reception with cast and crew will follow the 7 p.m. show. The production is being co-sponsored by CLC Women's Center and LGBTQ+ Center, and ticket proceeds will benefit the Women's Center emergency fund. Tickets will be available at the door. The suggested donation is $7 for general public and $5 for CLC students with ID.
