Learn about the amazing life of Leonard Nimoy from CLC professors

On Feb. 27, the first anniversary of the death of actor/director Leonard Nimoy, College of Lake County sociology professors John and Maria Jose Tenuto will present "Leonard Nimoy: A Celebration" from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Cook Memorial Library, Cook Park Library Campus. The event is free, but registration is required through the library's website at www.cooklib.org.

The Tenutos will chronicle Nimoy's storied life, from his Depression-era immigrant childhood, through his many TV and film roles, to the astounding impact of his "Star Trek" role as Spock. The presentation will also cover Nimoy's photography, poetry and philanthropy and will include rare images and documents gathered by the Tenutos.

Because of the 50th anniversary of "Star Trek" in 2016, the Tenutos have been invited to present new lectures at "Star Trek" conventions in Illinois and Vulcan, Alberta.

John Tenuto received the College of Lake County 2013 Outstanding Full-time Faculty award and has given dozens of public presentations and media interviews on the sociology of the "Star Trek" film and television shows. The Tenutos write frequently for www.StarTrek.com and are well-known experts on the TV and movie series. John Tenuto gave four presentations at the Star Trek convention in Las Vegas to more than 5,000 people over the summer, providing a tribute to the show's late star, Leonard Nimoy.
