Duke QB Sirk out with ruptured left Achilles tendon

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - Duke says quarterback Thomas Sirk has ruptured his left Achilles tendon.

Coach David Cutcliffe said Sirk injured the tendon Tuesday during a team conditioning session and that he's scheduled for surgery Wednesday.

There's no timetable for his return. Sirk, a rising redshirt senior, missed the 2013 season with a ruptured Achilles tendon in his other ankle that April.

Sirk threw for 2,625 yards with 16 touchdowns and eight interceptions while also leading the team in rushing with 803 yards and eight TDs.

He was the co-MVP of Duke's victory over Indiana in the Pinstripe Bowl after rushing for two touchdowns, throwing for another and rolling up 318 total yards.
