Sheriff's office: Drunken driver hit squad car in Beach Park

A Lake County sheriff's deputy was not injured after a drunken driver hit his squad car early yesterday morning, officials said. The deputy was traveling north on Sheridan Road about 2 a.m. when a 2001 Ford SUV made a left turn into Beach Mobile Home Park directly in front of the deputy's car, police said. Full story.

Police identify victim in fatal Aurora crash

A 33-year-old man who died early Sunday after a car crashed into a house in Aurora has been identified. Obed Cruz-Hernandez, of Aurora, was one of two people in a Volkswagen Jetta that was traveling south on Farnsworth Avenue about 2 a.m., police said. Full story.

Police: Photo booth took picture of a man committing theft

Batavia police used social media to help capture a man who stole from a photo booth and left his picture behind, police said yesterday. In November, police say Chancellor J. Terrell, 24, formerly of Aurora, entered a photo booth at Funway Amusements in Batavia, pried open a cash drawer and took about $75 in cash, causing another $75 in damage to the machine. Full story.

Antioch-area man missing

Lake County sheriff's officers say they're asking the public to keep an eye out for an Antioch-area man who is considered missing and endangered. Zeke Kowal, 69, was last seen leaving his home in an unincorporated area near Antioch at 10 a.m. yesterday, Lake County Public Information Officer Christopher Covelli said. Full story.

Elgin school board member chastised for 'racist' Facebook comments

Dozens of parents, teachers and community members chastised an Elgin Area School District U-46 school board member last night over a Facebook post about Black History Month, with some calling for her resignation. Garage catches fire in Geneva

A fire started by carelessly discarded smoking materials in a Geneva garage Monday morning caused $40,000 in damage, fire officials said. Nobody was injured when the blaze started just before 9 a.m. on the 2700 block of Conant Court, fire officials said. Full story.
