Lake County sheriff offers citizen police academy

The next Lake County Sheriff's Office citizen police academy begins March 17, officials announced in a news release. The academy is a 10-week program, with classes held Thursdays from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Instruction is provided by sworn deputies and civilians in their field of expertise and is designed to provide a hands-on experience. Training takes place at sheriff's office facilities in the county, including the Lake County Courthouse and Lake County jail in Waukegan, as well as the highway patrol division in Libertyville. Upon completing the program, students graduate May 26. The academy is free to Lake County residents. Participants must be 21 years of age or older, be of good moral character, and have no felony convictions. Applications are available at the Lake County Sheriff's Administration Office at 25 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. in Waukegan, on the Lake County website at http://tinyurl.com/z5q2tu7.
