Easter season dawns with arrival of Ash Wednesday
Mardi Gras is over, and the most solemn period on the Christian calendar begins today with Ash Wednesday.
At St. James Catholic Church in Arlington Heights, young students in the religious education program were distributed ashes on Tuesday at an afternoon Mass, in preparation for the following day.
