Slàinte, MCC's student-run restaurant, re-opens on Thursday

McHenry County College culinary students are currently testing fine dining recipes for Slàinte (pronounced "SLAHN-cha"), the college's student-managed restaurant. Slàinte will reopen for the spring semester on Thursday, Feb. 11.

Restaurant hours are from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays through May 5.

Slàinte will continue the theme of classic comfort food with a modern twist. Grilled swordfish, scallops with a tequila lime sauce and filet mignon on potato pancakes are some of the entrees being offered.

For dessert, Slàinte will bring back the popular vegan chocolate mousse and will also feature apple pie "fries" served with a bourbon caramel sauce. The final menu will be posted to www.mchenry.edu/slainte during opening week.

The culinary arts program, led by Chef Tina Drzal, now offers two associate in applied science (AAS) degrees and three certificate options. Hospitality continues to be a leading segment of the world economy and MCC students gain real-world experience in Slàinte, which runs in the spring semester, and Sweet Scots Bakery, which runs during the fall semester.

Seating capacity at the student-managed restaurant is 60, and reservations are highly recommended. The menu is a la carte style with most meals under $15.

The restaurant is located in the MCC Scot Room, Building B, Room 178, behind the cafeteria. The college is at 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.
