Police: Intoxicated Lisle man head-butts officer

A Lisle man has been charged with aggravated battery to a police officer after authorities said he head-butted one of the cops who responded to a domestic call Sunday night at his apartment.

David T. Demay, 48, of the 900 block of Lacey Avenue, "struck our officer on the jaw with the top of his head" after being handcuffed about 11:22 p.m., Lisle Deputy Chief Ron Wilke said.

Demay began swearing and poking his finger into the chest of one officer when a pair of them responded to his roommate's call that Demay was "scaring him" after a night of drinking, Wilke said.

When officers arrived, they found Demay apparently had broken the sliding door to the patio and was acting "belligerent and highly intoxicated."

The officers handcuffed Demay, but Wilke said he found a new way to strike them.

"At some point he complied again and when he was close enough to the officer, he head-butted the officer with the front and top of his head," Wilke said.

He said officers then took Demay to the ground and took him into custody for aggravated battery to a police officer. Because Demay was so intoxicated and acting irrationally, Wilke said officers took him to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove for evaluation.

After he was released, Lisle police booked Demay and sent him to DuPage County jail. His bond was set Monday morning so he would have to pay $5,000 to get out of jail pending trial.

Demay is not facing any charges related to the original domestic call, Wilke said. The roommate who called police remained locked in his room while police struggled with Demay, and Wilke said a woman who had been at the apartment Sunday night left before police arrived.

A total of three Lisle officers and one sergeant responded to the scene, but only one was head-butted. The officer reported feeling pain on the left side of his jaw where Demay's head struck him, but he did not need medical attention.
