Men's T&F Ties for Seventh at UW-Parkside

The 2016 Harper College men's track and field season got started on Saturday at the UW-Parkside Classic. The team had national-qualifying efforts in the 3200m relay, high jump, triple jump, and shot put. The Hawks also placed in a tie for seventh as a team in a highly competitive field featuring many four-year colleges.

The 3200m relay squad of Will Troman (/Streamwood), Adam Brauer (Palatine, lll./Palatine), T.J. Paton (Fairfield, Calif./Hersey), and Kurtis Monahan (Inverness, Ill. /Barrington) ran a time of 8:50.95, which was good for fifth place and met the standard for nationals. In the high jump, Nick Dorsen (/Palatine) cleared 1.75m and placed third.

All three Hawks triple jumpers - Keyshawn Brown (/Elk Grove), Justin Tolentino (/Dundee-Crown), and Tyler Block (/Conant) - qualified for the national meet. Brown's jump of 13.32m was good for second place, and Tolentino (12.01m) and Block (12.00m) took fifth and sixth place, respectively.

Freshman Brandon Soriano (/Elk Grove) and sophomore Laith Kanan (/Palatine) both turned in solid performances in the shot put. Soriano's toss of 13.38m was good for ninth, and Kanan's toss of 12.34m was good for 15th. Both competitors met the standard for nationals. Kanan also achieved a PR in the weight throw with a heave of 13.25m.

As a team, Harper College scored 29 points, good for a tie for seventh place with Judson University and Wisconsin Lutheran College. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee held toip team honors with 79.5 points, followed by Marquette University (73.5 points) and University of St. Francis (65 points).

The Hawks will be back in action on Saturday, February 13 at the Chicagoland Indoor Championships hosted by North Central College in Naperville.
